Personnel management staff from the Bank of the Lao PDR and commercial banks took a 10-day study tour in Singapore last month to learn more about human resource development.

The 12 staff members visited the Standard Chartered Bank to learn how to optimise personnel work in the Lao banking sector, according to the central bank's Banking Institute.

Lao banking officials also attended a short course on job vacancy advertising, interview methods and evaluation, at the Singapore Human Resource Institute.

The course was taught by Mr Seow Gim Leng, who has more than 10 years experience in personnel work. The trainees also learnt how to use a basic human resource management programme from SAP Asia Pte Ltd. The visit was supported by the Financial and Banking Training Project, a collaboration between the governments of Laos and Luxembourg.

According to the central bank, the main purpose of this project is to boost personnel development in the area of banking.
